Brief Description
Adapta Imaging, Inc. is developing a new type of radiofrequency (RF) coil, an essential component of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) hardware, which can operate at any frequency. The Any-nucleus Distributed Active Programmable Transmit (ADAPT) coil was invented at UC Berkeley in the lab of Dr. Chunlei Liu, a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, and the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute. The ADAPT coil converts direct current power into RF magnetic fields with frequencies chosen by digital control signals, eliminating the need for expensive traditional RF amplifiers. The company's low-cost, scalable, and efficient method for exciting arbitrary nuclei in human-scale MRI promises to streamline multinuclear MRI workflows, and enable the study of dozens of biologically relevant nuclei.
