Sponsor Research

The IPIRA Industry Alliances Office (IAO) strengthens ties between industry and UC Berkeley researchers, facilitating creative collaborations that leverage the innovative and entrepreneurial culture at the nation's leading public university.

How to Develop a Project Partnership

  1. Find a researcher or research team aligned with your company's research goals. Search the Berkeley faculty expertise database.
  2. IAO staff will then work with you and the researcher to define the project and write and sign a contract outlining the terms of the relationship including rights in intellectual property, confidentiality, publication, and more.
  • If your company wishes only to provide gift funding, contact University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR).

Types of agreements

IAO assists in establishing the following types of research agreements between for-profit companies and UC Berkeley:

  • Jointly developed projects to establish a particular line of scholarly inquiry
  • Multi-year research collaborations
  • International agreements
  • Confidentiality agreements
  • SBIR or STTR subcontracts from small businesses
  • Transferring research materials or data
  • Industry Affiliate Programs
  • Industry Sponsored Institutes
