Curt Theisen is an Associate Director responsible for licensing and business development at the Office of Technology Licensing at UC Berkeley. Curt works with campus inventors to facilitate the commercialization of technologies created at UC Berkeley into the commercial sector for public use. This includes working with inventor startups and Fortune 500 companies.
Curt has over fifteen years of progressive business development, channel, product management, and licensing experience with well over 150 completed partnerships totaling more than $140M in revenue, funding, and royalties.
Previously Curt was the Director of Business Development for Internet Security Systems (ISSX). He was also the Director of Business Development for Network ICE, which was acquired by ISS in 2001. Both companies centered on the enterprise security market. At Network ICE, Curt played a key role in the growth of Network ICE from a founder-funded company to a successful Acquisition of $238M. Network ICE was a small founder-funded startup that was grown into a market leader with over 120 employees.
Before moving into the security industry, Curt was Head of Business Development at Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL) for the Computations and Lasers divisions. He completed a large number of multi-million dollar technology development and licensing deals at LLNL. Curt holds an MBA, MS in Engineering Management, and BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
